About the Project

North Star Housing wanted to do more than tell people they invest in communities. They wanted to show it.

We spent six months following four grassroots organisations across the North East that had received funding and support through North Star, capturing real people, real projects, and the genuine difference that investment makes on the ground.

The result is a seven-minute community documentary that works as a brand film, a social impact piece, and a conversation starter for anyone who has an idea and does not know where to go with it.

How We Did It

Community documentary work is a different discipline to a standard corporate shoot. You are working with real people who are not used to being on camera, in locations you cannot fully control, capturing moments that cannot be staged or repeated.

Over six months we visited each organisation across five separate shoot days, building enough familiarity that the interviews feel natural and the footage feels genuine rather than produced. That matters because audiences can tell the difference, and so can the people watching who might be considering approaching North Star themselves.

The brief had two goals running alongside each other. Show what North Star does and who they support. And make it clear to anyone watching that if they have a community idea, North Star is worth talking to. The film needed to work as both a celebration of existing projects and an open invitation to new ones.

Seven interviews, four locations, six months in the making. Delivered as a single cohesive seven-minute film.
