Stockton’s Flea Market – Hiding in Plain Sight

Everyone keeps asking where Stockton’s flea market is, and honestly it’s right there if you know where to look. Tucked inside the ancient alleyways off Green Dragon Yard and Finkle Street, in what is arguably the oldest part of Stockton, it feels like a little world of its own the moment you step inside.

Old maps, vintage toys, Lego, Star Wars memorabilia, records, antiques and collectables spanning pretty much every era you can think of, all at a fraction of what you’d pay anywhere else. One of the stall holders even pulled out an old toy gun with the little popper cartridges when I visited. I hadn’t seen one of those since I was a kid.

The stall holders are friendly, the finds change regularly, and people who grew up in Stockton often tell us they forgot it was even still there. It has been running for decades and shows no sign of stopping.

I bring the kids most weeks and they always walk out with something. That’s the thing about this place, you genuinely never know what you’re going to find and it changes every single time you visit.

The Market Stalls

The stalls now span around eight traders tucked into the alleyways, each one different. You’ll find vintage toys, old maps, records, Star Wars memorabilia, militaria, antiques and collectables covering pretty much every era. Stock changes regularly so there’s always something new and the stallholders are genuinely friendly, happy to chat about what they’ve got in.

The Cafe

Right on the entrance sits Retro No.9, a retro cafe selling cheap breakfasts, coffee for £1 and vintage band t-shirts alongside the food. It’s covered separately in our Tees Explorer series but it’s very much part of the experience here.

Getting In

Free entry. There are multiple ways in including off Finkle Street, through Green Dragon Yard from the High Street, Silver Street and from the Riverside. Once you know where to look you’ll wonder how you ever missed it.
