Al Fords Antiques – Stockton’s Quiet Hidden Gem
Some places in Stockton feel like they have always been there, even if most folk never notice them. Al Fords Antiques is one of those. Tucked on Ramsgate, just off town centre near The Shambles.
No obvious signage, nothing shouting for attention, barely exists online. You would walk straight past if you didn’t know.Step inside though, and it is a completely different world. Town noise vanishes.Antiques hang from ceilings, line stairs, fill every shelf and corner. Old lamps, paintings, bicycles, tools, ornaments, clocks, trains – it feels like someone’s lifetime collection, not a tidy shop.
A shop you do not expect
Tucked among it all is Al’s favourite – a matchstick steam train that’s won awards. Museum piece stuff, easy to miss if not looking. Everyone notices something different. For me it was an old unique chess board, but actually getting to it was another story.
